Halloween is a super hot topic right now due to the state of the world. To trick-or-treat or not to trick-or-treat is the BIG question. For our family, I'm not so sure it is the best choice.
Right now in our beautiful world there is a pandemic called Covid-19, (incase you hadn't heard). ;) In my city, there is a red zone, meaning we are a hot spot for the virus. Scary stuff :(
That being said if you decide to opt out this year it could be the perfect opportunity to create amazing memories for you and your children that will last a lifetime and potentially be the Halloween they will remember most fondly.
Here are my 6 suggestions to make Halloween 2020 a memorable one, hoping they will help keep smiles on the faces of your little ones and not so little ones!!
Use your outdoor decorations indoors this year, carve pumpkins and display them all lit up... maybe you could even have a carving competition. A little goes a long way in the eyes of your children. It doesn't have to cost a lot to make a big impression. Pinterest is a great resource for DIY decorations.
That's right. Usually we focus on what our children will wear, this year take the opportunity to dress up with them! The sillier the better! There is no need to run out and buy a costume if you don't want to, go through your closet and maybe even your kids costume chest and see what crazy costume can be created!
This can be done inside, outside or a combination of both. You could make the scavenger hunt interesting by writing little riddles, which leads them to the jackpot at the end. You could also set-up a candy hunt, similar to an Easter egg hunt but with everything they would get while trick-or-treating.
How about spaghetti and eyeballs, pumpkin pancakes and crispy bacon fingers or meatloaf brains with mash potato worms? Whatever the meal, make it fun and stay creative! They will love it!
You really can’t go wrong with a game night. Our kids absolute favourite is Picture Charades. The cards have pictures instead of words so even our two youngest can play along. You could create your own version by drawing, printing out or cutting out some Halloween themed pictures.
We have a movie night every Saturday and even with the kids ranging in age from 3 to 10 we have yet to run into an issue finding a movie that they could all enjoy. On Disney plus there is a Halloween section filled with classics and newer movies and shows all Halloween themed. If you don't have Disney plus you could always check out Netflix or other streaming services or check your local listings for specials.
Whatever you decide to do this Halloween we hope it’s a Spooktacular one! Doing just a couple of these things will make Halloween with your children so fun and memorable. I think you will enjoy the change more than you think! 😉
